The Peppermint Essence Story
Peppermint has been used throughout the ages. It's name comes from the story of a beautiful nymph who was mistress of Hades the Greek god of the underworld. Her name was Minthe. When Persephone, wife of Hades, learned of the affair she vengefully transformed the nymph Minthe into a herb forcing her to live above ground away from her lover. Hades, in memory of his love, gave the new plant an extremely pleasant fragrance and aphrodisiac powers so every one would love her.
The mint family has a massive variety of plants with over 3,000 members.
Many of us use mint every day in toothpaste, it is commonly given as a herb for indigestion, sea sickness, headaches and many more, it is a simple herb to grow that can invade your garden.
It was this very common use that had lasted so long that really interested me and drew me to make Peppermint flower essence out of the hundreds of tiny purple trumpet-like flowers that fit into the spear shaped main stem. Peppermint is a plant that stands up for its self and travels along the ground easily.
One of the reasons I was drawn to make mint as a flower essence was that I was searching for essences to aid concentration and assist dyslexia. Mint has an awakening affect. When your mind has become dulled by too much study, or you have spent hours at computer screens this essence will assist you to wake up and be here now. I am currently working on a concentration essence. Mint, Wild Garlic and Carrot will definitely be part of this combination.
